We here at Crippen are looking to make 2017 a record-year for giving back to our communities. We will be holding monthly intraoffice fundraisers to benefit 12 different charities this year through our new Crippen Cares™ initiative. Our nonprofit spotlight is on this month’s fundraiser recipient, Cameras With A Cause.
Cameras With A Cause is a group of local photographers in Ocala who wanted to give back to their community in a way that many of us take for granted: by providing families with a luxury that many cannot afford, a family photo.
On December 7, 2013, the first annual Help Portrait event took place in Ocala. With the help of the Ocala Salvation Army and several local professionals, Cameras With A Cause was able to provide hair and make-up services and a family photo to over 40 families (approximately 130 individuals), as well as entertained the children with some fun activities and snacks while they waited their turn.
Since then, the number of volunteers and attendees have grown. Their volunteers are the backbone of their events — photographers, hairstylists, make-up artists, and other members of our community who come together to show their support and give back. Because of the tremendous support they’ve received, they have been able to slowly add more events, such as providing portraits with Santa Claus at a local school where many of the students have never had the chance to meet Santa.
